patrick: fell on some ice

yeah.

A week ago today I slipped on some ice at work. I fell about 5 feet and landed on top of a small brick wall. My initial feelings were that maybe I broke a rib. I felt/heard something pop (break, tear…whatever) when I fell and the wind was knocked out of me. After gasping for breathe for 20 or 30 seconds I finally began to be able to breathe and, with some help, made it back into the house. I left soon after for the ER.

The KCH ER.

Yeah, that one.

I had a bad experience with this ER in the past (they almost killed me…i’m serious.) I started asking around and discovered that almost everyone I know who has ever had any kind of experience with this ER has some horror stories that would make you cringe.

The X-rays came back showing no rib breaks and they sent me home. I noticed no change in my pain for about 3 days, which I spent in bed. On wednesday or thursday I noticed that my ribs were gradually feeling better, but my back was hurting worse and worse as the days went on. I have barely been able to sleep as every time I shift my weight, stabbing pains shoot up and down my back and into my side.

My plan is to see my family doctor first thing tomorrow and hopefully to see a chiropractor before I leave for vacation.

I’m just hoping I didn’t break a vertebrae or something else that will need surgery. I’d prefer to make it out of this with only a few months of chiropractic care and some painkillers/muscle relaxers.

So yeah, i fell on some ice.
