patrick: all tired and stuff

June 24, 2008 at 1:05 pm (Uncategorized)

Jiu Jitsu is as fun as I remembered, but freaking tired today.

Oh well, I guess I’ll try to work out and maybe eat some food. (i never eat)

I should totally go biking today!

Oh and I scored some free mats from by BJJ instructor to set up in my garage. That’s pretty cool.

patrick: back in the gym

June 23, 2008 at 5:36 pm (Patrick)

I decided to finally get back to my Jiu Jitsu gym. I’m going tonight for the first time in months. It’s been 2 full years now since I was training regularly. I’ve popped into the gym here and there and grappled with my friends maybe once every two months or so, but now I’m ready to take it seriously and get back in there.

I’m excited on a number of levels. My instructor, Jason Fox, was recently awarded his Black Belt, which is a really big deal in the BJJ world. Royler Gracie gave it to him after spending a week together in one of Royler’s schools in New Jersey. I’m guessing that having a black belt in our gym has created a renewed excitement among the guys, and I’m eager to get in there and get excited with everyone else.

I’m pumped about spending time with my friends as well. There’s four or five guys there that I used to see several times a week in the gym, and I have missed being around them. We traveled to tournaments and strategized according to each guy’s strengths and weaknesses. We cornered each other in our matches, and watched tape of ourselves afterwards. We were a team, and I’m excited to be rejoining the team.

I’m also excited to be getting back in shape. I looked at myself in the mirror today, and while I wasn’t bothered in particular with what I saw, I realized that I’m 25 years old already, and that I’m not getting any younger. I don’t want to hit 40 and finally decide to get in really good shape. I decided a few days ago to get back in the gym, and I’ve already been making lifestyle changes that reflect my decision. I am looking forward to the day that I can train hard and not feel so exhausted that I have to quit early, like the last three or four times I’ve trained.

If any of you reading this are in the Warsaw area, you should train with me. Give me a call.
